Pamfilova: “The NGO Law may be changed”
St. Petersburg, 17th July – the Chairman of the Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights Counsel under the President of the RF, Ella Pamfilova does not exclude the possibility that amendments may be introduced into the Law on the non governmental organizations. “I believe that there will be reasons for that. Anyway, lots of our public organizations are monitoring the application of the Law and all the results of this monitoring will be systematized and presented to the President”, she said to the journalists on Monday.
In present day Russia, “potentially, there are no contradictions between the Society and Government, and this is the only way for development”. According to Pamfilova “Democracy either exists or not, there is no halfway, as there are certain democratic principles”. Pamfilova is very skeptic about the term “Sovereign Democracy” when applied to Russia. She pointed out: “Unfortunately, in Russia the democracy itself is already associated with chaos, disorders and social poverty. We will have to fight this stereotype for a long time”. “It is due to the weakness of the country in the certain historical period. But now Russia is getting stronger and stronger”, Pamfilova assured, “We live better, we are getting self confident as well as confident in meeting national interests”.
